Thinking Makes It So is a one-man play which follows Sean, a former frat boy who is struggling with nightmares brought on by a traumatic and controversial incident from college. What happened to him? Alone on a stage, he introduces us to members of the Joy Boys, his cadre of close male friends. As each man shares his opinion of the event, friendships begin to break until Sean is left alone to face his friend’s judgments and find his own salvation.

ARTISTIC RETREAT

On September 14, 2008, Thirteen artists assembled at the Little Pond Arts Retreat in Nazareth, PA, for the first ever Examined Man Artistic Retreat. Newcomers Rebecca Bernstein, Alex Brown, Evan Enderle, Carrie Dell Furay, Bill Griffin, Lauren Murphy, Lauryn Fay Sullivan and John Sundling joined Artistic Director Damon Krometis and former Examined Man associates Chelsey Donn, Daliya Karnovsky, Paul Toben and Patrick Vaill for a week-long theatrical forum.

The goal of the retreat was to create an open environment for artistic creation and theatrical debate. The program included exercises, readings, rehearsals, design meetings, and debates over meals and drinks. Designers participated in song circles. Actors made design sketches. The company partook in communal

living, participating in meal preparations.

The days were long. Damon would start rewrites at 7:00 am. Rehearsals lasted 12 hours. And then there were the bonfires. What emerged from the retreat was clearly defined and impossible to quantify. We built a family, and together we mapped out the next three years in Examined Man's production schedule. The work we created was our strongest yet.

We owe our deepest thanks to Bill and Bridget at Little Pond, for giving us such a wonderful home for exploration. What transpired was a dream come true for many of us. We will not soon forget it.

Examined Man acknowledges the generous support of Anne Towne and Mark and Mary Mogan Vallon for helping to make this year's Artistic Retreat possible.
