Examined Man Theatre is dedicated to creating and presenting new plays that examine the depths and limits of human potential. We engage our audience in an exploration of the complexities of the human condition through provocative storytelling and deep personal honesty.

We foster a highly collaborative working environment for creating and developing new work and adapting classical stories. We encourage a dialogue between actors, designers, writers and directors on every aspect of the creative process. Through this open exchange of ideas, we build a deep-seated trust in each other, empowering us to then engage our audience in a dialogue about mankind.

Our ensemble develops new work through a long and intricate process, including workshops, readings, and our annual Artistic Retreat. We are dedicated to exploring new voices and supporting artists that approach age-old questions from a new perspective. Founded in 2006, Examined Man Theatre was created to present plays, readings, and workshops that question, redefine, or otherwise explore societal standards of masculinity, and the pressures, motivations and consequences behind them. Our goal was to encourage our audiences to re-examine their own personal views on gender roles. Starting in the summer of 2008, Examined Man expanded its mission and its membership into what it is today.
